O Guaco ou Erva de Bruxa é um tipo de planta medicinal utilizado contra gripe, rouquidão, infecção na garganta, tosse, bronquite. Também conhecido como como guaco-cheiroso, cipó-almecega, cipó-caatinga ou erva-de-cobra. É uma espécie nativa do Brasil, e é cultivada em todo o território nacional, mas, em maior quantidade no bioma Mata Atlântica. 
O surgimento natural dessa planta é em bordas de rios, matas primárias e planícies suscetíveis à inundação.
A planta é também conhecida como erva-de-serpentes, cipó-catinga ou erva-de-cobra. O guaco sempre foi muito conhecido pelos índios brasileiros, que a usavam para combater o veneno das serpentes. Ainda hoje, em algumas regiões do Brasil, o macerado das folhas é aplicado em forma de cataplasma sobre picadas de cobras e outros animais peçonhentos. Existe também a tradição de usar a planta fresca e nova (cujas folhas emanam um aroma intenso e agradável) para manter as cobras afastadas.

Para preparar o chá de guaco, basta adicionar um torno de 09 folhas para um litro de água fervente, tampar e deixar repousar durante aproximadamente 15 minutos. Passado esse tempo, deve coar o chá e adicionar uma colher de mel. É recomendado beber 3 a 4 colheres deste chá por dia, até que sejam observadas melhoras.
Para tosse, pode-se preparar o xarope de guaco também, utilizando 1 xícara de açúcar, 1 litro de água fervendo, 9 folhas de guaco lavadas e higienizadas e 1 xícara de mel. Caramelize o açúcar, acrescente a água fervente, junte as folhas e mexa bem até desmanchar o açúcar. Tampe a panela de deixe ferver por uns 20 minutos, até as folhas ficarem amolecidas. Deixei esfriar, coe a mistura e adoce com o mel. Tome 1 a 2 colheres de sopa antes de se deitar.
Enfim, vale lembrar que a única diferença do remédio para o veneno, é apenas a quantidade. No mais, a Natureza está aí para nos curar. Cabe a nós utilizarmos dela com respeito e sabedoria.
